Shen Yun Performing Arts the epitome of five decades of Chinese traditional folk tales and some current stories related to Chinese ancestry has had toured more than 130 cities since January spreading their message with their talented music and dance routines.
Shen Yun is a New York-based performing arts group with three different troops including traditional Chinese members from all over the world. This group ooze of pure Chinese culture that has been neglected for so long by the Communalist China Govt.
A group of artist master in the art of Classical Chinese Dance & Music formed this group in 2006. The name of the group Shen Yun Means Divine Performing Arts. Shen Yun’s promotional manager and New Tang Dynasty Television’s narrator Levi Browde (Browne is responsible for the promotion of the group in Westchester also he is representing the company at Purchase) says, “They came together with the mission of revitalizing traditional Chinese culture,” he further included, “They do this through the art forms themselves — the leaps and tumbles and spins — and through the stories that those art forms tell.”
The noticeable stories that the group represent are the legend of Yue Fei, the story about the loyalty of the Song Dynasty General and Mulan, the story of a legendary woman warrior who joined the army masked as a man. Another story includes the Buddhist monk’s journey to India, it is an adaptation from the famous Chinese novel of the 16th century “Journey to the West” also a modern account of “Astounding Conviction” which tells the story of a quite protestor who gets arrested in Tiananmen Square.
Each year the group brings fascinating original stories to life once again with their powerful demonstration of pure art. This 2 and a half hour show takes place at Purchase’s Shen Yun Performing Arts Center and is a beautiful combination of intricate choreography, unique compositions, lavish clothes, fantastic underpinnings and energetic settings in 20 different acts that contain all from the solo performances to group acts.
More than 30 dancers performing harmonized moves bringing ancient China alive once again following the mesmerizing rhythm of a solo musician playing erhu, a musical instrument containing two strings a produce of 3,500 years back.
Other acts include operatic singing, drumming and folk dances from Tibet, Mongolia, and other border regions. The mic persons give a detailed summary of the story and background in both English and Chinese at the start of every act. Cheap Shen Yen tickets are available now online.
The orchestra that escorts the group comprises of many traditional Chinese instruments like stringed pipa, the guzheng (also called the Chinese zither) and the bamboo flute, and some Western instruments.
Shen Yun is a charitable group maintained with the Shen Yen Performing arts tickets money and donations. The company started with 30 dancers and its first performance in 2017 was attended by 200,000 people. The attendance rate has significantly increased over the years.
Shen Yun has more than 200 members now who perform all while traveling for seven months every year. Each group has its own private orchestra, choreographers, composers, M.C.’s, costume and set designers, backdrop and computer artists other than the prize-winning dancers and musicians. The artists are trained according to traditional Chinese teachings at Shen Yun’s headquarters in Cuddebackville, in Orange County, N.Y.
